Health
The Hungarian Health Security does not have a contract with similar foreign institutions about covering the costs of medical services provided for non-Hungarian citizens..This means that in most cases it is recommended to arrange some kind of travel/health insurance for yourself before visiting Hungary. First aid is free for everyone including tourists.

Pharmacies
It is sometimes difficult to get certain medicines without a prescription. Prescriptions brought from abroad are not accepted. Here are some pharmacies, which are open 24 hours, but you must ring the doorbell after opening hours. An extra fee of 100-200 HUF is charged in such cases.

Shopping
Opening hours
Opening hours vary greatly these days. In the case of supermarkets, food and grocery shops, regular opening hours are: Mondays until Fridays 7 am. until 7 pm., Saturdays 7 am. until 2 pm.. You'll find a lot of 24 hours groceries (where you can buy food), they are usually called "Nonstop-Bolt".
Most other shops (fashion, books etc.) are open from 10 a.m. to 6 pm on weekdays and from 10 a.m. until 1 pm on Saturdays. You will find quite a few newly built shopping malls in Budapest which are usually open until late at night. (Eg: Duna Plaza at M3 Gyöngyösi utca, or Westend City Center at Nyugati Railway Station with tram 4/6).

Postal Service
A normal size letter (114x162 mm, 110x220 mm) up to 20 grams to other European countries costs 160 HUF; to countries outside Europe 180 HUF. To send postcards to other countries in Europe 100 HUF, all other countries 120 HUF. (Updated August 2004). More details at http://posta.hu/
At the East (Keleti) and West (Nyugati) train stations, there are post offices with long opening hours (7 a.m. to 9 pm) - except national holidays. Public post boxes are small and red.

Opening hours of museums and galleries vary quite a lot, but they are usually closed on Mondays. Sometimes free entrance is possible on Saturdays. We advise you to call the gallery or museum before your visit and ask about opening hours and also about any informational material in English or other languages. Antiques, second hand bookshops
Instead of a long list here is a sample of streets where you will find lots of or at least some antique shops close to each other.
  • V., Falk Miksa utca (walk one stop or take tram 4 or 6 from Nyugati pályaudvar M3) This street is really the No 1. street of antique dealers and antique galleries.
  • V., Váci utca Antique shops and second hand bookshops.
  • V., Múzeum körút Some second hand bookshops.  
  • V., Kossuth Lajos utca Some antique shops between Ferenciek tere and Szép utca.
  • Flea market: In springtime and summertime every Sunday morning until 2pm at Petofi Csarnok in Városliget. Take trolley bus number 70 or tram number 1. It is real fun to visit this flea market, where you can buy everything you do not need.
